I always start strong!!

Onegaishimasu Parents,

We are absolutely pumped to get back into the dojo, and get back to helping your child discover their unlimited potential. As you may know, many of our Keiko TEAM were in Okinawa over the break sharpening their skills and obtaining new knowledge at this year’s 40th annual IOGKF Gishiki training. We cant wait to share what was learned with everyone.

Parents, back to school will be here before you know it. We have many things planned for this month, but our primary objective during August will be to get your child ahead of their peers for their start in school this September!

OK……I hope you had a wonderful break! But.....now its time to do what all Black Belts do…START STRONG!! This is so important for your child’s development, and is a critical success habit. Success is just a habit, just as failure and struggle are habits. Here at KEIKO, we know what habits result in high achieving, successful, happy, children and adults.

Here are a couple of simple, yet effective tips to make your karate re-start a HUGE success!!

*Students: Here is your special mission!! You must help your parents and work with them on these critical factors…….

*Parents: Just do these simple, but critical things, and equally important, allow your children to be active in the process. This simple yet powerful lesson teaches your child to take ownership, accountability, and responsibility, ultimately guiding them to become masters at TAKING THE INITIATIVE and developing into that Self Starter every parent is looking for in their child.

Prepare: restarts can be challenging. You are out of your regular routine. Just like trying to restart a diet or workout program you fell off of, or that first day back at work after a lengthy vacation. This can be even worse or more amplified for our kids.

So here is all you have to do:

a. Start talking it up!!! Make your child’s restart in karate this week important to you! If it is important to you…it will become important to them as well. Be extremely positive about the restart of karate.

b. Pre-plan everything. If you are an over achiever or really a Black Belt parent...do a dry run Sunday or Monday. Do not leave anything for the last minute. Get everything ready for next week. Pull out their Gis and belt and have it laid out in the open for your child to see.

c. Maybe it is time for a new Gi??Have your child put on their Gi, and belt to check for fit, and cleanliness. Ensure the Gis is clean. The psychology of putting on a brand new crisp, bright white gi, can be huge.

d. Check sparring equipment and karate bags for all items and ensure everything is ready to go.

2. Get Excited: This is one where you can only lead by example. Get your child excited for the restart but....the best way to do this is YOU!!! You need to get excited and bring that energy! How? Give off the emotion and energy that you just cannot wait to get back into the dojo. Get so excited you cannot stop talking about it. Your child feeds off of your emotions and energy. You need to be ten times more excited than they are!

The new school year will be here before we know it, and like you, we want your child to have their BEST YEAR EVER! You may have already drawn the conclusion that these same strategies for preparing your child to return to karate would be very effective for their return to school this fall, and your right…they are!!

Parents…..As mentioned earlier, we will be implementing certain powerful concepts, and strategies tied directly to helping your child become wildly successful not only in the dojo, but at school, at home and life beyond!!

Welcome Back!!! We cant wait to see you again!

Have an amazing week

Sensei
