At the end of the year 2019, I would like to thank all our members and their families for your commitment to our style. Our mission as an organization is to protect and preserve this intangible culture of Okinawa Goju-Ryu and pass it to our next generation.
A special thank you to our countries' chief instructors as well as dojo instructors for your daily hard work of teaching and organizing events. I believe that teaching traditional karate helps our students to become better persons both on the physical side as well as the mental side. This is the way we contribute to our communities, and help our society to become a better place to live.
Higaonna Sensei is working very hard to register Okinawan Traditional Karate to UNESCO World Heritage. For this purpose, we changed this year's event name to "Traditional Karate Gishiki" instead of "Budosai". We had over 1,000 members from 50 countries gathered in Okinawa last summer. The event was a tremendous success. I would like to thank all the members who came to this event. We also celebrated the 40th anniversary of IOGKF.
I wish all our members and their families to have a great year 2020 with a lot of joy and happiness.
Tetsuji Nakamura
IOGKF Chief Instructor
