Onegaishimasu Parents, and students,
Way to start the New Year strong!! The level of intensity, focus, and respect in your home dojo is outstanding to say the least. You have the momentum….Thank you for partnering with us to make this your best restart and Year Ever!!
I read somewhere; New Year’s resolutions are just “To Do” lists for the first week of January. Which also made me realize…February is where New Year’s resolutions go to die. But you know what??? This doesn’t apply to Keiko parents and students because we know what it takes to be successful. We know the secrets to discovering our unlimited potential.
Last week we talked about our ability to invoke lasting change and success that is not just for the moment, but on a permanent level. This type of change is about who we are, it becomes our identity, it becomes our character. Today we are going to go a little deeper into that success mindset, because it really is all about your mindset.
At Keiko Martial Arts we believe in order to discover our unlimited potential it really begins with self perception and our words, but choosing the right words takes discipline. These words and phrases not only determine what we focus on, but also guide how we think, and behave. They become our identity.
Here’s where it gets better. It’s not only what we perceive in our minds, and say with our words, a lot has to do with our body language and the story it is telling. Your body language also plays a huge role in creating a positive energy and attitude. Chin up, chest up, and a smile with excellent posture can have a huge impact on keeping positive. Our student creed is full of opportunities to practice powerful, positive and strong body language, as is our Black Belt listener position during mat chats. This is deliberate because we know it can positively shape your child’s self perception.
You can choose the words you use, and your body language, but again this takes practice and discipline. The best way I have discovered is learning to replace negative thoughts or phrases with positive ones. Work hard to never let your child repeat such phrases as “I can’t” or “I hate school.” Instead have them replace those phrases with “Try my Best!” and “I love school!” Help them resist the urge to criticize, complain and blame. Then notice the words they use when they talk about themselves, as this will form their self-image.
Have you ever been around someone that is always negative, complaining, criticizing and blaming? They have just developed a habit and pattern of using certain words and a specific language. On the other side have you ever known a person that is always upbeat, positive and with a ‘can do’ attitude? The words they use are just a habit also.
Helping develop good word habits by using and repeating simple yet powerful phrases are one of the ways we help you and your child shape your success mindset.
“Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, and….Your habits become your disciplines, Which become your character and your identity!”
Be the change you want to see in your child, and help them to choose their words wisely. Here’s to you and your child discovering your unlimited potential in 2021!
Have an amazing week.
