Onegaishimasu Parents and Students,
At Keiko, we teach bullying awareness, predator awareness, and personal safety because protecting ourselves and others is an important part of martial arts.
But underneath all of these lessons, we are teaching something even bigger:
COURAGE.
Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s learning to do the right thing despite being afraid.
For a child, courage might mean speaking up in class, meeting someone new, standing up for a friend, or saying something when they know something isn’t right.
That’s why we teach our students:
“I never let anyone bully me or my friends.”
Standing up doesn’t always mean physically stepping in. Sometimes the smartest and safest choice is getting a teacher, parent, or trusted adult. It could mean reporting bullying, refusing to join in, supporting someone who feels alone, or speaking up when something isn’t right.
SILENCE GIVES BULLYING POWER
Bullying often depends on fear and silence.
This is especially true as children get older, when bullying can move into group chats, social media, rumours, and exclusion.
Our children may be the ones who see it happening.
And that means they can also be part of the solution.
One person speaking up can give someone else the courage to do the same.
As parents, we can continue this conversation at home. Ask your child:
“If you saw someone being bullied, what could you safely do to help?”
Our goal isn’t to raise children who look for confrontation.
We want to raise children who are confident enough to protect themselves, compassionate enough to help others, and courageous enough to act when something is wrong.
We want Guardians and Champions for GOOD!
Teach them to be smart.
Teach them to be safe.
Teach them to be courageous.
Most importantly, teach them:
STAND UP. DON’T STAND BY.
Can bullying be stopped? We believe it can!
Have an Amazing Week!
